- You need 4 of firm, peeled pears.
- Prepare 750 ml of red grape juice.
- You need 60 grams of caster sugar.
- It's 1/4 tsp of mixed spice / pumpkin pie spice.
- It's 1 of zest of 1/2 an orange.
- It's 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract or paste.

- Put the pears in the pan. They should be covered by the juice. Bring to the boil then simmer for 25 mins or until soft.
- Put the pears to the side and keep warm. Bring the juice to a rapid boil until it has reduced by half and turned syrupy.
- Serve the pears hot or cold with the syrup poured over. I serve vanilla ice cream on the side and hubby likes custard with his.
